Archiving Overview

DST and Taurus have built a robust archiving process that can be used to selectively remove historical data from AMISYS. Four archiving modules are available: Membership, Claims, Providers and Benefits. All archive from the Advance production environment and move the historical data to an Oracle database. If needed, processes are included to restore the all or selected data into the Advance production database.

So why archive?

Here are some of the reasons, our clients say they archive:

• Keeping a minimum amount of data keeps production databases running quickly and efficiently.  Maintaining optimal data levels is critical to optimal system performance. Archiving old data minimizes user wait time, decreases report run times, and increases application performance.  Health plans with long standing business include data archival as part of a normal maintenance schedule.
• Meeting regulatory requirements shouldn’t mean upgrading your hardware year after year just so that you provide required historical data.  Archiving to another database on another machine means keeping your production environment lean and mean enabling the application to respond quickly
• Just because the data is old, doesn’t mean it isn’t useful.  For example, health plans are constantly developing new benefit designs to meet ever-changing demands. Health plan need to retain copies of the configured, but outdated benefit packages. Having these plans available online as they were originally configured allows easy access and quick answers to questions about the past.
• Make the data in production database reflect the here and now without giving up the historical data. Servicing providers and members, generates a myriad of detailed transactions including processed claims, authorizations, and membership renewals. The details of completed transactions are only useful for historical inquires, but still appear in all the inquiries screens.  Make the current information easy to find without paying the penalty of not having access to historical data when you need it.
