Many production systems are well established and have excellent functionality for core business processes. But many organizations have complemented their systems with bolt-on applications on separate servers.
New needs.
The bolt-ons provide specialized applications such as service, warranty, documentation or export trading. Increasingly organizations are bolting on web servers to provide browser access to production data for customers, suppliers and partners. A good example is an e-tailer which needs to allow consumers the option to change or check the status of orders already placed. Apart from providing better and instant service, this facility reduces the need for customer service intervention. A side benefit can be that a web server database can be on-line to serve customers while the production may be unavailable.
Old problems.
The key requirement when integrating applications across the enterprise is to exchange transactions between different hardware and databases as fast as possible. It is difficult to do this between relational systems. It is extremely difficult to do between legacy systems and relational servers, particularly if bi-directional update is needed.
A better solution.

If you do not need instantaneous transfer, BridgeWare can update an intermediate structure between the two systems in batch or real-time. A Staging Area that contains clean and certified production data for several downstream applications is an example. Data Warehouses, Operational Data Stores can access this Staging Area at any interval they wish.
