What migration options are certified by Amisys LLC?

When moving your company’s data, you want to be assured that the method you use is certified by the application vendor. Amisys currently only certifies two methods: their own services and Taurus’ migration tools and routines.

Why would I want to use Taurus’ migration products?

• They are faster.
• They can migrate Amisys data AND other databases.
• They can be done as either a bulk migration or a phased migration.
• They can migrate data either to HP-UX or other platforms.

How do I migrate my Amisys data using Taurus’ software?

Taurus offers two paths for data migration:

• Bulk migration
• Phased migration

Bulk migration will migrate your data while users are not accessing the system. You will migrate all your data, Amisys and surround databases, at one time. You already own part of what you will need to migrate your data, Warehouse on MPE. In addition, you will need to activate Warehouse on HP-UX, so the data can flow from source to target. The bulk migration process provided by Taurus is four times faster than any other method.

Some clients may require a no downtime solution for their users. So, if you want to run both MPE and Advance concurrently, BridgeWare adds MPE real-time data captures to your project. 

Can I use Taurus’ Software to migrate my non-Amisys data?

Yes. We are here to help with your data migration for non-Amisys data. If you need training, we can provide that. If you need resources to help with that migration, we can provide those too.

We are going to move our other applications to Windows. Can you help with that move?

Yes. We can move data from IMAGE to almost any platform/database combination. All required is the data movement engine for that platform. Any platform can read and write to any other supported platform. We provide a GUI workbench that gives you rapid development of any data movement between these platforms.

How long will my migration take?

Recent benchmarks reported by Amisys show transfer rates using Taurus products of 13 gig in 52 minutes. Avmed has published their recent benchmark results which are even faster. To view their results, click here.

If you have substantial amounts of non-Amisys data, you may consider migrating this data to Oracle, as an example, well in advance of the migration date to minimize the impact to Amisys production of the data movement. You can keep that Oracle data refreshed from MPE until migration. On migration, switching the feed to Amisys Advance is not a major effort. 

You can take as long as you like if you have access to DataBridger or BridgeWare.

Is there a limit to how many migration runs I can do?

No. Use our software as often as you like during the migration. You can read and write the Amisys databases and any other data you have on MPE and HP-UX. No Taurus consultant is needed to assist you.

How fast is data movement engine?

DataBridger is the fastest method to move data from IMAGE to Oracle available on the market. 

• DataBridger moves data with a single read and a single write 
• Low Level native database APIs are used for efficiency. No ODBC 
• Intermediate files are not used so there is no wasted I/O 
• You do not have to buy disk to hold the intermediate files 
• FTP management nightmares and delays do not occur 
• DataBridger can use multiple CPUs if available 
• Either MPE, HP-UX or both can execute the code to let you load balance 
• DataBridger uses Oracle’s Direct Path Load for high speed bulk loads 
• DataBridger supports multiple threads. No single threading is required.
• You schedule to your needs. No Taurus person is needed on-site

How will my Amisys historical data be handled?

Amisys is using DataBridger with Amisys Advance to read archives that were created on MPE, and to create new archives.

If you decide NOT to convert all of your historical MPE data, you will still need to retain the data for statutory and regulatory reasons. With DataBridger you can simply clone the historical data any RDBMS you own for future reference, allowing the HP 3000 to be discontinued.

Now that I’m on Amisys Advance, can I use DataBridger?

Yes. If you have DataBridger, you have a full scale ETL that will move data between all the databases and files on HP-UX, Solaris, AIX and NT/Sys2K. Creating a real-time Amisys reporting RDBMS on a smaller server is a snap with DataBridger.

How is DataBridger different from the other options open to me?

• Minimum production downtime 
• Fast. Allows you to migrate over the weekend rather than keeping the production system off-line or running a staged migration
• Comprehensive. Use DataBridger for all your data, including Amisys data you will not migrate to Amisys Advance. 
• DataBridger for as long as your migration lasts 
• Economical. You don’t need to buy double the disk space for intermediate files. Or another product for your non-Amisys data.
• Value. You can buy DataBridger to use on Amisys Advance and HP-UX at a competitive price 
• Staged Migration. BridgeWare allows a staged migration, synchronizing data between databases on MPE and open systems 

What’s the cost?

All Amisys sites own a copy of the Taurus Warehouse product that is used by the Amisys Archiving application. Amisys will supply a second copy of Warehouse for HP-UX to sites for archiving at no cost for the license.

Maintenance is payable on both the MPE and HP-UX copies during the migration, plus a maintenance restoration fee if you are not current on Warehouse maintenance. Amisys will quote the maintenance cost for the HP-UX copy. 

MPE maintenance can be terminated when the migration is complete.

Taurus will convert these two Warehouse copies to DataBridger for MPE and HP-UX by adding a copy of our Studio GUI workbench. There is no additional cost above the maintenance fees for Warehouse on MPE and HP-UX.

The DataBridger bulk movement routines to move the Amisys data may be purchased separately from Taurus. Taurus and Amisys will be happy to quote you the fees for these routines.

Taurus will quote for supplying real-time IMAGE capture programs if you need them. You will then also need BridgeWare in place of DataBridger.

DataBridger may be purchased for the migration and later used on HP-UX at a competitive price that takes account of your prior purchase of Warehouse for Archiving.

How does the migration differ from Amisys standard migration?

It is faster and will save you a lot of time. The steps for both migration processes are:

• Install software on MPE and on HP-UX Systems 
• Run an Amisys provided program on MPE to fix “bad data” 
• Build target Oracle environment using an Amisys provided process 
• Run data migration process (either Taurus’ or Amisys’) 
• Validate data using Amisys provided validation programs
